Mark – Systems Engineer

Mark works in the Alerter Group engineering team.

He recently marked his seven year anniversary working with the company.

Video transcript: My name’s Mark. I’m a Systems Engineer and I’ve been at Alerter Group for seven years this August.

One of the reasons I like working at Alerter Group is the flexibility. I’ve recently been able to take off two weeks holiday along with my two weeks paternity to spend a full month at home with my new family.

One of my favorite things about the job is the buildings that we work in. One of my favorite projects to work on is at the University of Sheffield as the Arts Tower building there has a paternoster lift – which is a continuously-moving lift that goes from the basement ground all the way to the top – which is the largest paternoster in the world.

As a Systems Engineer, Mark travels to different places around the UK to install and maintain Alerter Group’s lifesaving systems.

Like others in the Engineering team, he cites working in a diverse range of buildings as a job highlight:

“One of my favourite projects to work on is at the University of Sheffield. The Arts Tower building there has the largest Paternoster lift in the world. This is a continuously moving lift that goes from the basement floor all the way to the top!”

When Alerter Group began – back in 2000 – it was a family-run company with just a handful of employees. Today, it’s a local business operating nationally, but retains the ‘family’ feel.

The company still hosts quarterly social events where colleagues can meet up with people from their own and others’ departments, leaving their usual job role behind for the day.

“One of my favourite things about the company is the four works do’s per year!”

Mark recently became a dad (congratulations!! 🥳 ) and adds:

“One of the reasons I like working at Alerter Group is the flexibility. I’ve recently been able to take off two weeks’ holiday along with my two weeks’ paternity leave, to spend a full month at home with my new family.”
