Tom – Field Engineer
Tom is a Field Engineer at Alerter Group. He started his career here four years ago, inititally working as a Junior Engineer.
Video transcript: My name is Tom Francis. I’ve been working here about just over three and a half years. My current role is Field Engineer, I was a Junior Engineer.
You get to see different places, different areas and you get to see a lot of fun sites. You could go to a place like Hampton Court Palace or there’s a maritime museum in Cornwall which is really a nice job.
I came into this job having really no prior knowledge of this industry or the work that we do. They don’t make you worried about asking questions if you’re not sure. They’re always there to help out.
So, I think that helped settle the nerves a lot in the first few months.
As part of the engineering team, Tom is involved in carrying out site surveys, installing our lifesaving systems.
He also carries out routine maintenance and repairs.
The role involves travelling to lots of different places, which Tom says can be a job highlight:
“In previous jobs I’ve mainly worked in just one building. It’s nice being able to travel around.
You get to see different places, different areas.
You get to see a lot of unique buildings and go behind the scenes.”
Tom’s story – of starting in one job at Alerter Group, and building a career here – is impressive, and is something we’ve seen before here as well.

Tom adds:
