Hotels & fire safety
for Deaf people
Enhance fire safety for guests who are Deaf or hard of hearing, with our radio-based Deaf Alerter system.
1 in 4 people in the UK have some degree of hearing loss. Millions of those people aren’t able to hear fire alarms.
With over 100,000 fires in buildings every year in the UK, the risk to Deaf or hard of hearing people is not only high, but potentially life threatening.
Installing a fire alarm for Deaf and hard of hearing people helps avoid risks and improve safety throughout your building.
What is Deaf Alerter?
Deaf Alerter® is a system that provides emergency messages about fire alarms for Deaf and hard of hearing people.
The system works to alert Deaf or hard of hearing people if fire alarms go off in buildings.
Deaf Alerter systems can include night-time devices (known as Night Alerters) with vibrating pillow pads. Accommodation providers can place these portable Night Alerter units in bedrooms, to help wake sleeping Deaf or hard of hearing people in the event of a fire on-site.
How does Night Alerter work?
Our Senior Sales Consultant for the South East & London, Laura, discusses Night Alerter (our night-time fire alarm product for Deaf and hard of hearing people).
Case study: The Peninsula London
As a responsible accommodation provider, the Peninsula Hotel group recognised the safety of Deaf and hard of hearing people as a priority.
Benefits at-a-glance
Supporting safety and equality
Having Night Alerters on site and ready for use is a clear marker of your committment to equality and health and safety. It shows that your guests’ wellbeing is a top priority.
Stylish, multifunctional design
Night Alerter can also be used as a clock and an alarm clock.
Portable within buildings
Our Night Alerter devices can be used anywhere in a building where Deaf Alerter is installed.
For hotels, this means there’s no need to allocate specific rooms for Deaf or hard of hearing people: all rooms can be used, even with short notice bookings!
BS5839-1 compliant
BS5839-1 section 18 is dedicated to the special requirements of “fire alarm warnings for people with impaired hearing”.
Our Deaf Alerter system, including the use of Night Alerter devices, is fully-compliant with BS5839-1.
