Ian – Sales Director

Ian’s our Sales Director, overseeing our team of sales consultants across the UK.

He’s been working here since 2019. During that time he’s overseen contracts for a range of projects – both for our wireless Emergency Voice Communication system (Refuge Alerter) and our Deaf Fire Alarm system (Deaf Alerter).

Video transcript: Hi, I’m Ian Lomas, Sales Director at Alerter Group. I’ve been with the business five years.

The team, the Alerter Group team is amazing. We were a family-owned business and it very much feels like that today.

We do have some good smiles and good fun, but at the same time, we get on and get the job done.

We actually assess the project, listen to all the stakeholders. We’ll look at options. We may incorporate some research and development and then go back with an honest answer about how it can be done.

Why are our products so important? According to Ian:

Alerter Group’s products are about egress from the building. It’s critical that someone with a disability – whether that disability is visible or not – has that opportunity to leave the building safely, as much as anyone else.

The products are used around the UK, by hundreds of customers.

The fact that these products are radio-based affords notable benefits – for example, Refuge Alerter can be easily retrofitted in buildings without having to install extensive new wiring. (This makes the system perfect for old kinds of sites – including old, listed buildings and new, multiple building complexes.)

Of all the projects he’s worked on, Ian says there are many he found particularly interesting from an installation point of view. One of these is providing Deaf Alerter at  the sites of Hearing Dogs for Deaf People – a charity training hearing dogs who transform deaf people’s lives.

“They have two sites; one in Buckinghamshire and one in Yorkshire. We provided daytime cover with Deaf Alerter, and night time cover with Night Alerter units.

Why it means so much to me is that they train dogs for Deaf and hard of hearing people. In fact, one of my own dogs, a cocker spaniel, had two puppies who went off to be hearing dogs. So it’s a charity that’s close to my own heart, as well as obviously being a cause that Alerter Group can get behind.”

So what’s next for Alerter Group?

According to Ian, there’s some exciting stuff in the pipeline – for example:

“We’re now having conversations with partners globally. This really excites me because not only are our products offering solutions that are compliant in the UK, we’re adapting them to suit other standard in the rest of the world.”
