Alerter Group’s new product is ideal for locations where room occupants change frequently – such as hotels or halls of residence.
Thursday, 18 April 2023 – Alerter Group, a market-leader provider of emergency communication systems, is enhancing night-time safety for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people with the launch of its new Night Alerter product.
Night Alerter integrates with Alerter Group’s market-leading Deaf Alerter product to provide physical and visual wake notifications for people who can’t hear audible fire alarms during emergencies.
Night Alerter is portable, making it ideal for locations where occupants change often (such as hotels or halls of residence).
It’s also been designed to look like – and double up as – an alarm clock for added value. This increased functionality and styling also sets Night Alerter apart from the previous night-time alert system, Night Cradle, that Alerter Group is already well known for.
A significant need
Two million people in the UK are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, meaning they may not be able to hear audible fire alarms during the day. Furthermore, at night many Hard of Hearing people remove their hearing aids meaning there’s an even greater risk of those fire alarm warnings being missed.
Safety must be ensured for everyone in a building, including people with disabilities. As such, the subject of how to wake Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in the event of an emergency is critically important for companies and organisations that provide accommodation.
Installing Deaf Alerter and Night Alerter in a building facilitates day and night-time fire alarm notifications for Deaf and Hard of Hearing people – aiding compliance with the Equality Act, Human Rights and Health & Safety.
How the product works
Night Alerter consists of a central receiving device and a vibrating pillow pad.
The product works as an add-on to Alerter Group’s Deaf Alerter product (which is in turn integrated with buildings’ audible fire alarm systems). If an audible fire alarm goes off in a building where Deaf Alerter is installed, a signal will be sent to all Night Alerter devices in that building.
At that point, the Night Alerter’s pillow pad will vibrate strongly and lights on the device will start flashing to help wake up the sleeping Deaf or Hard of Hearing user.
Key benefits
Developed in the UK from Alerter Group’s Derbyshire Head Office, Night Alerter is:
- Radio-based. No hardwiring is needed.
- Portable. Easily movable between rooms.
- Mains-powered with a 24 hour battery backup. Still works for 24 hours even if there’s a power outage.
Ian Lomas, Sales Director at Alerter Group, explains:
“Night Alerter is a really important device to help protect people who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in the event of a fire.
Not only does it help with the critically-important task of meeting Health & Safety responsibilities, it also supports organisations to boost their equality obligations.
We’re really pleased to confirm that Night Alerter’s available for order now.”
