Recent reports have highlighted concerns with the accessibility of Universities throughout the UK. Disabled people are still facing barriers with Universities failing to make reasonable adjustments under the Equality Act.
The Equality Act 2010 is now in its 10th year of providing a set of standards, bringing together over 100 separate pieces of legislation, to protect the rights of individuals and to advance equality throughout the UK.
Adjustments should be made to make all Universities accessible, providing the same resources and opportunities for anyone disabled using the Universities facilities. This includes messaging for Deaf or hard of hearing people in the event of an emergency, as well as the need for two-way communication within disabled refuge areas in buildings.
